Breaking Down the Newest Trailer for Fantastic Four First Steps What We Learned

Marvel Studios just unveiled an amazing new trailer for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*! If you've been replaying it repeatedly, you're definitely in good company—we're diving into every detail to bring you the most exciting reveals, hidden Easter eggs, and more.

This film not only kicks off Phase 6 but also lays the groundwork for what’s ahead in *Avengers: Doomsday*. With that in mind, we’re sure there are still some surprises waiting in the wings. We’ve uncovered some thrilling highlights. From intriguing plot hints to subtle nods to characters like Franklin Richards and Mole Man, this guide will walk you through the most important reveals from the latest trailer.

The trailer opens with characters in New York expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Fantastic Four. Unless this hints at the film's ending, it seems Marvel's First Family has a rich history of saving the world. It’s hard to find any heroes in Earth-616 as beloved as they are. When was the last time a kid asked Captain America or Spider-Man for a favor like lifting a car? This unique mix of being superheroes, imaginauts, and public icons truly sets the Fantastic Four apart. They represent the admiration of a world that has only one set of heroes.

We’ve had a feeling for a while now, but the new trailer for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* confirms it: Sue Storm is expecting! Interestingly, this storyline appears to develop over time, as we see her shortly after the news, sporting a baby bump and keeping an eye on a crib. The pressing question is: who’s in that crib? Comic fans may remember that Franklin Richards was the firstborn, followed closely by his sister, Valeria. All signs point to it being Franklin, but who knows how this alternate reality might twist the tale?

We’re introduced to the Silver Surfer, who takes on a female form in this universe. We suspect this iteration is Shalla-Bal rather than a gender-swapped Norrin Radd, but she retains all the classic traits, including her iconic silver skin and sleek surfboard. She swiftly handles Johnny Storm when he tries to approach her and later seems to be inside the gigantic device Galactus uses to consume planets. The fact that the Herald is delivering this ominous news to Earth signals that the Eater of Worlds is on his way. Reed Richards appears to inform Sue that the Silver Surfer's arrival is linked to him, claiming he has "stretched the bounds of space." There’s been speculation that Galactus could pose a Multiversal threat, and the teaser hints at the hero journeying through alternate realities. Marvel Studios seems poised to draw inspiration from Jonathan Hickman's Avengers saga, potentially using Galactus in a role similar to The Builders. If Galactus can traverse different worlds, he has the potential to consume resources from every reality, possibly devastating a planet like Earth before any Incursion takes place. This makes for a intricate plot, one that could lead seamlessly into Avengers: Doomsday. A seemingly minor moment could offer intriguing hints about the future of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The citizens of New York appear to be seeking refuge, but where exactly are they hiding? The location bears a striking resemblance to Subterranea.

Promotional materials have already hinted at Mole Man's underground lair being part of this version of New York. Could it be that our first comic book villain has morphed into an unexpected ally? Set photos have shown elements of Subterranea, aligning with what we've seen so far. Regardless of Mole Man's role, it's clear that his subterranean home will play a part when Galactus sets his sights on Earth.

As for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we've seen an official new look at the MCU’s version of the Silver Surfer, a female character. The Fantastic Four are expected to join the fray in Avengers: Doomsday, with rumors suggesting that after Avengers: Secret Wars, a soft reboot will incorporate them and the X-Men into Earth-616. This could indicate that their reality is running out of time, raising the question: will Galactus indeed wipe it out this July? If that happens, the team may find themselves without a home, possibly leading them to share the same reality as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Yet, as they prepare for interstellar adventure, it seems more probable they are heading to another planet entirely. It's likely that Marvel’s First Family will confront Galactus to gauge his powers before planning their return home, gearing up for a significant confrontation.

While The Fantastic Four: First Steps aims to evoke the 1960s, this universe does feel notably different from our own. The impressive skyscrapers and advanced tech, including the team’s Fantasticar, signal this right away. In some respects, it leans a bit more towards realism than we might have anticipated. The Fantasticar appears more like a standard vehicle than the spectacular design celebrated in the comics, which had a nod in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. However, there’s still potential for that iconic look to emerge in future adventures, making this initial offering a promising start that aligns well with Marvel Studios' vision for the film.

This trailer showcases the extraordinary abilities of Marvel's First Family, with The Thing appearing as though he’s jumped straight off the comic book pages. Johnny Storm also fits right into that comic world. Sue Storm often stands out as the team’s most formidable member, and it seems she endures quite a few challenges here while facing off against Galactus. Fans of the comics know she can do so much beyond just turning invisible. We also finally get a glimpse of Mister Fantastic’s powers, and his stretchy abilities are exactly what we expected. Here’s hoping Marvel Studios will come up with some creative ways to highlight them in this film and those that follow.

Once again, The Fantastic Four: First Steps keeps Galactus mostly under wraps, revealing only his enormous feet as he tramples through New York City. Portrayed by Ralph Ineson, the character is brought to life through a combination of motion-capture and a physical suit, which should help make him feel more grounded. Even with this brief appearance, it’s clear he’s a force to be reckoned with. Let’s hope the next trailer gives us a peek at Galactus' face and lets us hear his voice. For now, we’re eager to see how this epic confrontation unfolds!
